Welcome to Newcastle Spiritualist Church Inc. We are situated in the heart of Newcastle City (NSW Australia) in Cooks Hill, just a short walk from Darby Street. Our Church supports the philosophy of Spiritualism as embodied in the seven principles and we welcome people from all walks of life and religious backgrounds. Spiritualism is a philosophy, science, religion, and way of life, and encourages advancement regardless of past experience. It supports the belief in the continuous existence of the Spirit and Soul after physical death, and the ability to communicate with Spirit.

Our Mission Statement:

To provide opportunity for the spiritual and psychic development of the members and visitors of our church. We aim to:

Provide various speakers to share their knowledge of life
Demonstrate and prove that life continues on after death and communication with caring loved ones is possible
Create a loving, nurturing atmosphere where one can discover their own divinity
Provide a place where freedom of thought, self-expression and confidence in one’s uniqueness can grow, where peace and ‘at-one-ment’ with all life can be felt.

What is Spiritualism?

It is a philosophy, science and religion, and based on the belief of the continuous existence of the soul after death and the ability to communicate with those spirits.

When did it begin?

Aspects of the spiritualist philosophy date right back into the very early ages. Though the movement as we know it today began in America in 1848, when communication was received from a man known to have died. Then suddenly contact with the departed became frequent. Many small groups gathered together, spreading across America then quickly to England, Europe in 1852 and to the Australian goldfields in Victoria circa 1860’s.

Today across the world many countless Churches, Centres and Groups have been formed. It has developed from the simple wall and table rappings of passing messages to a religious philosophy.
Modern Spiritualism is referred to as more than a religion, it is a “way of life” with meaning and purpose.

Who are Spiritualist?

The majority of Spiritualists are people who at some time were part of an orthodox religion discovering that the knowledge presented was very limited leaving many incomplete answers to questions.

These people are of all ages, race and creed who wish to have the freedom to explore their own understanding, which will assist them to have a better concept of life and its origin, without feeling restricted by the limited views of others. People encouraged to be responsible for their own actions and to take control of their own life. Those given the chance to seek out truth and beliefs as it applies to themselves.

What do They Believe?

Spiritualism has no Dogma or Creed. Every being is seen as an individual looking to expand their own awareness and understanding surrounding their role in life. Spiritualism, however, has Seven Principles (see below) given as inspired guidelines and open to interpretation to suit your own particular circumstances.

We accept that there is a greater intelligence, the life Force, an all knowing, ever present energy, “God”, that poured forth all of life, leaving within each of us a spark of itself. A source of love and good constantly available to each and everyone of us.

We believe that we all follow our own path at our own pace, discovering the “God” within and bringing us a greater knowledge of this Divine source.

Our basic belief is in the continuation of Life and that Death is just a transition to another level of consciousness. We see life as eternal. We are a Spirit co-existing in a physical body. After death or the releasing of the physical, our spirit and personality in the form of our thoughts and emotions continues to live in another form on a different plane of existence.

We recognize psychic faculties as a natural ability; perhaps latent, however, they are another one of our senses. Meditation is an important aspect used in the development and awareness of these areas and is a natural progression toward spiritual unfoldment as we find ourselves likening life to the classroom in which we learn many lessons.

The Seven Principles

The Seven Principles form the basis of Spiritualism, and help Spiritualists to navigate and combine their spiritual and human journeys. They were given through the mediumship of Emma Hardinge Britten, and are adopted by those who choose Spiritualism as their religion (with liberty of interpretation).

The fatherhood of God
The brotherhood of man
The communication of Spirit and the ministry of Angels
The continuous existence of the human soul
Personal responsibility
Compensation and retribution hereafter fora ll good and evil deeds done on earth
Eternal progress open to every soul

The Great Invocation

From the point of Light within the mind of God,
Let Light stream forth into the minds of men,
